11th SKC East West Tournament
SKC East West Tournament is a tournament between two sides of Singapore, east and west. It is a team events with 5 players in a team, randomly picked from SKC, NYP and NUS. The teams were made as balanced as possible by considering the rank of the team players.
It was meant to be that the tournament was just for fun, because you do not represent for you club. But the pressure exist when you need to fight for your own team. I never understand about that until the end of tournament.
Anyway, it's good to know that I understand it now.
My team consist of 2 SKC members, one of them is a 11 year old 3rd-Kyu Kendo player (that's like 3 ranks higher than me!), 2 NYP Kendo player and the only NUS Kendo player, me! Our team captain, Jerry, is well experienced. And I learnt a lot from him!
Well, I've fought 3 matches, lost one, won one, and draw one. The first match was against my senior back in NUS. Even before the match starts I already thought I'll lost to him. And it turns out that I really lost to him. Aiyak. Jerry told me I defend too much. I lost 2 points when he manage hitting my men twice.
My second match was against a Japanese kid (that's what my senior, Dax, told me). I wasn't really thinking too much during the match, because Jerry told me it was my last match for the whole Sunday as we had lost the previous round. So I just fight like there's no tomorrow...
Begining of that match, Dax told me I looks afraid of my opponent, because I did too much defence. I only started attacking after he got a point from me. I think that's pretty true. He got the first point from me easily. However after we fought for awhile, I notice his level of Kendo. So I started parrying his attacks, and I scored 2 points from two attacks on the men.
My friends complimented on that match. Yay!~
After that I took a rest, thinking that's all for today. But suddenly my teammate asked me to prepared for quarter-final. I was surprised! I was really excited when I heard that, but I've forgotten if I don't do my best, I won't get to fight for the rest of the matches.
My third match was against a female Kendo player. It ended up a draw. None of us get any points from each others. Jerry told me that I can get the points if I have more tenuchi in my cuts. If I've had won that round, I might have a medal to bring home. Hehe. But at least I learnt my weakness also lah, it isn't a lost either.
Well, at the end of the tournament, the results were announced and medals were given. The west team won! I'm so envy of those who got medals from the events... I guess I have to がんばる!~ 加油! My next aim would be 14th of August, 2005, the 4th Singapore Kendo National Championship!
P.S. I got my tare mane today! It acts as an identification in Kendo.
P.S.S. On the way back to PGP, I met a staff from Student Care Center. He was bringing a few kids around for an activity. I chat with him about the organization while I showed him the way to Kent Ridge Park. It seems to be fun to play around with kids. Hehe!
