Inoue sensei and the HKKA
I just came back from Kendo practice session, and it was great!
It wasn't usual for me to train during Saturday at SKC, but the rare opportunity to train with a hachi-dan sensei (8-dan), Inoue sensei, and members from Hong Kong Kendo Association (HKKA) has tempted me so much that I'm willing to skip my dance lesson for it.
I can't believe I've skipped my elemetary Quickstep, Cha Cha and my last lesson for intermediate Jive just for the keiko session. But I have no regrets. Life is getting well balanced. You have to sacrifce one thing for the other.
The keiko started out with Inoue sensei teaching and reminding us the way of Kendo. 気剣体, which basically means the spirit, the sword, and the posture. If a person has a bad spirit or heart, a bad posture will be portrayed, which will then lead to bad cutting technique.
He added that the heart cannot be changed directly. A good posture has to be maintain in hope that it'll improve the heart or spirit. I believe that's true in real life too. The way you do things will shows what kind of person you are.
Inoue sensei taught us a few technique on improving Kendo and emphasize that by doing Kiri kaeshi continously for 6 month will certainly brings you up a level. I have no doubt on that. I need someone to train kiri kaeshi everyday with me!
Just one hour before the end of keiko, we had jigeiko (free pratice) with each others. And I get to keiko with Inoue sensei! During the keiko he trained me on my hiki men (Men retreating from tsubazeriai), which he realize I'm not good in it. After a few failed attempt of doing hiki men, I manage to do a quite nice hiki men (which I'm satisfied with it), and ended my keiko with him. So cool!~
Did I mention I get to witness nitou?! It was so cool! Nitou is a Kendo player who uses two shinai, which one of them is shorter than the other. The fighting technique was so interesting, and it was as interesting as the way Inoue sensei counter them! I could never have imagine how nitou fight without witnessing this!
After that, I get to keiko with another Kendo player, which ended up pretty fun and satisfying. He was my training partner thoughout the practice session, so we're familiar with each other's style compare to others. He was quite good for his cut. But it was quite surprising for both of us when I managed to do kote nuki men (evasion of kote with men). It was surprising for me because my men cut for waza has improved :D
Last time my men cut was fragile when I tried to combine it with other techniques. That's mainly caused by the way I hold shinai. Well, since we were fighting for a nippon (one point), that ended our keiko. I can see he's smilling when doing sonkyo. Hehe, so much fun!~
There will be another keiko tomorrow morning, but I don't think I can make it. Never mind lah! I need to study for my Monday quiz anyway. Hehe!
P.S. You can find more information about the schedule for HKKA / Inoue sensei visit here.
P.S.S. I've found a Kendo player who has the same surname as mine, and he's from Hong Kong!
